Dewalt Corded Power Tools and Drills
Established in 1922 by Raymond DeWalt, the company started producing electric universal woodworking machines in 1924 which was termed as the Dewalt ‘Wonder-Worker’ and was configurable in 9 different ways. In the ensuing 20 years, the company expanded to meet the demands for US Government orders which were related to national defense as well as the requirements that arose during the World war II. In 1947, the company was reincorporated as Dewalt Inc. and in 1948, it got acquired by American Machine Foundry (AMF).
Its first across the border operation started in Canada in 1953. In 1955, the company expanded its plant space and added another 40,000 sq. feet. in order,to meet the higher consumer demand for its popular products. It was in 1992, however, that it was able to introduce its line of portable electric power tools as well as associated accessories which had been specifically designed with the requirements of remodelers, residential contractors and other professional woodworkers in mind.
Portable Electric Power Tools
By 1994, the number of portable electric power tools had gone up to 30. These tools comprised of the most powerful cordless tools in the market at that time. These tools included the 5 3/8″ cordless saw as well as the 14.4-volt cordless drill/driver. The entire revolutionary Dewalt Cordless power tool system included screwdrivers, drill/drivers, impact wrench, impact drivers, flashlights, saws as well as the combination of the drill/driver and the hammer drill which had been produced by the company for the first time.
In 1999 Dewalt was joined by the NASCAR Busch Series driver Matt Kenseth and Dewalt was able to acquire Emglo Compressor Company and Momentum Laser, Inc. By 2001. Dewalt was producing over 200 electric power tools as well as 800 associated accessories for these products. The company earned laurels in 2003 as Matt Kenseth succeeded in winning in the final of the Winston cup championship racing with his DEWALT Ford race car.
Dewalt had been extensively researching along…
With professional contractors and in 2005, it succeeded in developing SHOCKS – Active Vibration Control® which was able to reduce vibrations in hammers by up to 50%. In 2010, it introduced the innovative 12V MAX* system of lithium-ion tools which were instrumental in intruding a new compact design for power tools combined with a lot of comforts. These tools continued to have the industry-leading features which the contractors craved for.
Another addition was the Metal Cutting Diamond Blade line which increased the life of a standard Dewalt chop saw blade by 100 times. The 20V MAX* System wasanintroduced in 2011. However, support was continued for the 18 V battery users whose number was over 68 million at that time. The ‘Impact Ready’ was further expanded by adding 100 products which included screwdrivers, drills, hole saws, and sockets. The Demo steel accessories line also witnessed an increase of another 20 products.
In 2012, the ‘Perform and Protect’ line of products was introduced by Dewalt…
This line had better control, lower vibration, and better dust containment. The products included E-Clutch drills along with many other products. Dust collectors were also introduced as well as a new line of Dewalt Guaranteed Tough Hand Tools. The cordless 20VMAX* – XR line of Brushless power tools were introduced in 2013 along with Li-ion batteries of high capacity. In 2013, a new manufacturing facility started production in Charlotte, NC. and in 2015 another one went into operation at Greenfield, IN. Overall, now there are 7 production facilities of the company.
Bluetooth®-enabled batteries were introduced in 2015 enabling users to track their power tools from anywhere as the system provides updates in real time from the field. FLEXVOLT® was introduced in 2016. This is a battery that changes voltage automatically as tools are changed. The XP™ Tape Measure was introduced in 2017. The same year, the 20V MAX* system was expanded to run flooring and framing applications without fuel cells. The BREAKAWAY™ Reciprocating Saw Blades were introduced in 2017 too.
