FLIR Thermal Imaging Cameras

Thermal imaging cameras translate the thermal or heat energy into visible light.

Thermal imaging combines scientific data with visual information in color. The weather maps on TV or the internet displayed in color are a good example. The colors provide information about the temperature at various locations – region, nation, state, etc.The technology is called thermography.

The cameras detect the infrared radiation from the object. It is emitted by all objects with atomic and molecular movement. The higher the temperature the more the motion of the atoms and molecules. The more the motion the higher the infrared radiation they emit. An object above absolute zero i.e., -459.67°F or -273.15°C or 0-degree Kelvin radiates infrared radiation.

On the top edge of the camera, you’d find the power button and a shutter release. Pressing these buttons often feels a bit awkward because they’re protected by a rubber coating.

Functionality

The portable smartphone-like design isn’t the only amazing thing about this thermal camera but it offers some incredible features that can’t be found elsewhere.

MSX technology

This incredible technology is found in almost all the thermal cameras produced by FLIR. The benefit of this technology is that it combines the digital and thermal images together and then provides you with detailed information of the particular area you’ve captured. Thus, you can easily identify the potential problems in an object.

You won’t have to connect the device to a smartphone or transfer data to a laptop because you can easily see the entire data on the 3-inch touchscreen.

User Experience

We used FLIR C2 for a few weeks and it worked pretty well in different conditions. The camera shows an incredible image detail compared to any other thermal imaging camera. FLIR C2 shows some unique information you might have never seen on any other thermal camera before.

The camera shows the high and low range of temps on the right hand side when you take a picture. The visual layer enables you to recognize the problem within a few seconds. We used this camera to share details with our manager and it worked pretty well. We didn’t have to make a lot of struggle to explain things.

However, the camera takes around 30 seconds to start which isn’t good in my opinion. And when you take a photo, the camera freezes for a moment to calibrate the photo. Overall it’s an easy-to-use thermal camera that can accommodate most of your thermal imaging needs.

Conclusion

FLIR C2 is a compact size smartphone-like thermal camera loaded with some incredible features. It can be used to take thermal images in different professions and produces high-quality thermal images with incredible details also eliminates the need for connecting the thermal camera to a smartphone because it displays clear information on its 3 inch touchscreen.
